The Treasures That Betray Us (Day 5)

The Surrender That Sets You Free
"Seeking THE Way means surrendering A thousand ways."
Matthew 6:33 (ESV)
"But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you."
Devotional Thought
We end this week where we began...with a choice. Because that's what this has always been about. Not information, but decision. Not understanding, but surrender.
Jesus makes it clear, "Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you." All. These. Things. Your security. Your fulfillment. Your acceptance. Your success. Your identity. Everything you've been working for, striving for, comparing for, exhausting yourself to maintain? Jesus says it's all added when you seek first His kingdom.
But here's what seeking first requires...it requires you to stop seeking everything else. Seeking THE Way means surrendering A thousand ways. You can't seek God's kingdom first while also seeking financial security first. You can't seek His righteousness first while also seeking people's approval first. You can't run your race looking to Jesus while also looking at everyone else's race to measure your progress.
Hebrews tells us to run our race looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith. Not looking to our bank account. Not looking to our relationships. Not looking to our achievements. Not looking to what everyone else is doing. Looking to Jesus. Because here's the incredible reality...when Jesus is on the throne, everything changes.
Your security is found in Christ, not in finances, because the King has unlimited resources and you're His child. Your fulfillment is found in Christ, not in activities, because that throne means you have access to joy that doesn't depend on circumstances. Your acceptance is found in Christ, not in your relationships, because that throne means you're already seated with Christ in heavenly places. Your success is found in Christ, not in your child's accolades, because the King calls you His own. Your notoriety is found in Christ, not in the recognition of man, because your name is written in the Lamb's Book of Life.
So here's the question that determines everything, Will you seek A way that leads to darkness, or THE Way who is the Light? Your heart will follow whatever treasure you seek. That's not a suggestion. It's a spiritual law. You were created to treasure something. The only question is what.
If your heart follows your treasure, where has your heart been this week? And more importantly, where will it go from here?

Application Questions
- What is one specific "way" you need to surrender this week so you can fully seek THE Way?
- How would your life look different six months from now if you truly sought God's kingdom first in every decision?
Today's Challenge
Write down the one earthly treasure that has the strongest hold on your heart. Then write this sentence: "I surrender this so I can seek THE Way." Put it somewhere you'll see it every day this week. Every time you see it, thank Jesus that He is better than anything you're surrendering.
Today's Prayer
Jesus, I'm done seeking A way. I'm done chasing treasures that betray me. I'm done professing grace while practicing works. I'm done comparing my journey to everyone else's. Right now, I choose to seek THE Way. I surrender the thousand ways I've been trying to find security, fulfillment, acceptance, success, and identity apart from You. You are enough. Your kingdom is worth everything. Help me live like I believe that. Make my heart follow You alone. In Your name, amen.
