Elevation That Transforms (Day 5)

Elevation That Transforms

“An elevated light is a transforming light—it changes everything it touches.”

Matthew 5:14-16 (ESV)

“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”

Devotional Thought

Jesus doesn’t just call you light—He describes where that light belongs: on a hill and on a stand. Why?
Because whatever gets elevated, gets illuminated. And what gets illuminated, gets transformed.

Think about it:
  • The Cross (John 12:32): When Christ was lifted up, the love of God was illuminated for all humanity. The elevation of the Son revealed the depth of His love and drew people near.
  • The Bronze Serpent (Numbers 21:8–9): When the serpent was lifted, God’s provision was illuminated, and all who looked were healed. Elevation revealed hope.
  • The Son’s Glory (Hebrews 1:3): When Jesus was exalted at the right hand of the Father, God’s glory was illuminated in His face. Elevation displayed majesty.
  • The Firstborn (Colossians 1:15): When Christ is lifted as the image of the invisible God, His supremacy is illuminated. Elevation shows us His true identity.

From creation onward, light has always been transformative. Genesis 1:4 reminds us that light is what separated chaos from order. Without illumination, nothing can be distinguished or made whole.

The same is true for us: when the light of Christ in us is elevated—at home, in the city, in the nation—chaos begins to shift into order. Families realign, lives are restored, and brokenness is healed.

The question is: are we willing to elevate the light, or are we hiding it under a basket? Because an elevated light is a transforming light and it changes everything it touches.

Application Questions

  1. Where has God given me a platform or “hill” to elevate His light this week?
  2. What area of my life still feels like chaos—and how can I invite God’s light to bring order there?
  3. Who around me needs to see God’s love, provision, glory, or image through the light I shine?

Today's Challenge

Choose one place of chaos in your world (home, work, relationships) and intentionally elevate the light of Christ there. Speak truth, serve faithfully, or show mercy in that place—and watch how illumination begins to transform it.

Today's Prayer

Father, thank You for placing Your light within me. When You elevate me, keep me humble enough to remember it’s for illumination, not self-promotion. Let my life shine so that others see You clearly and are transformed by Your presence. Amen.
