Rediscovering Our Hunger (Day 4)

REPENT FOR DOING IT YOUR WAY

1 Chronicles 15:13 (NLT)

“We failed to ask God how to move it properly.”

Convenience doesn’t create hunger — consistency does.

Devotional Thought

David’s first attempt to bring the Ark back failed — and someone died in the process. Why? Because they tried to carry the holy with convenience rather than reverence. They didn’t ask God how. They assumed their way was good enough.

Uzzah’s name meant “strength,” and it’s a sobering reminder: you can’t secure God’s presence through self-effort. The holy can’t be handled casually. That kind of thinking leads to spiritual missteps.

How often do we pursue God on our own terms? We show up when it’s convenient. We fit Him in instead of following Him fully. But revival doesn’t come through shortcuts — it comes through surrender. David repented. He got it right the second time. And so can we.

Application Questions

1. Where have I tried to carry God’s presence in my own strength?
2. What habits or patterns show I’ve treated Him casually instead of reverently?
3. What does real repentance look like in my life this week?

Today's Challenge

Take some time today to think about ways that you have tried to pursue God on your own terms or in your own strength. And reflect back on times when maybe you have treated God's presence casually in your life. Write out a personal prayer of repentance. Be specific. Ask God to forgive and redirect any area you've tried to control.

Today's Prayer

God, forgive me for trying to approach You on my own terms. I’ve treated holy things too casually. I repent for the ways I’ve made You fit my schedule instead of building my life around You. Teach me to walk in reverence and obedience. Amen.
