Growing in Meekness (Day 5)

The Witness of Meekness

Matthew 5:5 (ESV)

“Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.”

“Meekness is trusting in God’s power when your power is capable.”

Devotional Thought

Meekness is not just a personal virtue—it’s a public witness.
When the world sees true meekness in you, it sees a glimpse of Jesus.

The beauty of meekness is this: it disarms pride, it diffuses conflict, and it demonstrates trust in God. In a world obsessed with conquest and control, meekness quietly shines as a testimony to the kingdom of God.

Consider how Jesus embodied this:
  • He had all power, yet He submitted to the Father’s will.
  • He had every right to retaliate, yet He forgave.
  • He could have called legions of angels, yet He chose the cross.

And that same meekness now calls to us.

Meekness is not passivity or weakness. It is powerful because it points beyond self to Christ. When others see a believer who refuses to manipulate, retaliate, or self-promote—but instead walks in peace, gentleness, and strength under control—they see the unmistakable influence of the Spirit.

And Jesus promises: the meek shall inherit the earth. In God’s kingdom, it is not the proud who prevail—it is the meek who inherit.

Application Questions

  1. How does your attitude and tone reflect Christ to those around you?
  2. What opportunities do you have today to let meekness be your witness in a difficult conversation or interaction?
  3. Who in your life needs to see the gospel through your posture of meekness?

Today's Challenge

Let your meekness be a witness today:
In one conversation, conflict, or decision today, consciously choose to model the meekness of Jesus. Let your tone, your timing, and your trust in God speak louder than your words.

Today's Prayer

Jesus, You have shown me the beauty of meekness—a strength that trusts the Father. I want my life to reflect You. Help me to choose the way of meekness when my flesh wants control. Let my words, my tone, and my actions witness to Your love and truth. Teach me to trust in Your promises, knowing that it is the meek who will inherit the earth. In Your name, Amen.
