The Poor in Spirit (Day 5)
Come Empty, Leave Full
Revelation 3:17–18 (ESV)
“For you say, I am rich, I have prospered, and I need nothing, not realizing that you are wretched, pitiable, poor, blind, and naked. I counsel you to buy from me gold refined by fire, so that you may be rich…”

Devotional Thought:
It’s possible to be full in the world’s eyes and completely empty before God. That was the tragedy of Laodicea. They thought they had it all—but Jesus told them they had nothing.
That’s the danger of self-sufficiency. It blinds us to spiritual need. But Jesus doesn’t just rebuke—He invites. He says, Come to Me. Come buy from Me what you cannot earn. Come receive what cannot be purchased. Come poor—and leave rich.
This is the paradox of the kingdom: the only ones who get in are the ones who give up.
The door of the kingdom swings open to beggars, not buyers.
So, are you still holding something in your hands? Reputation? Performance? Pain? Control?
Jesus is calling you—not to bring more, but to bring less.
To bring your emptiness. Your weakness. Your honest need. And in exchange, receive what only He can give—Himself.

Application Questions:
- What are you still trying to carry that Jesus is asking you to release?
- What would it look like to fully admit your spiritual need today?
- Is there anything stopping you from saying yes to Jesus’ invitation into the kingdom right now?
Today's Prayer:
Jesus, I come empty. I come weak. I come poor in spirit. I have nothing to offer but need, and yet You meet me with mercy. Thank You for the invitation to enter Your kingdom—not by earning, but by surrender. Today, I receive Your grace. Today, I step in by faith. Help me to walk in the riches of Your presence every day. I am Yours. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
